A municipality is southwestern Manitoba is stepping in to help voters in Elgin get to a voting poll in Minto.

Head of council for Grassland Municipality Blair Woods says Elgin has always had a poll until this federal election.

"We aren't sure why elections Canada pulled the poll and a lot of voters in and around Elgin aren't very happy. In fact some say they may not even vote."

A couple of candidates have filed a complaint with Elections Canada but it's too late for any changes on Monday.

Woods says his council has decided to offer rides to the poll in Minto to make sure people can vote. "We met this week and decided to have the Hartney handi-van ready to offer rides every two hours on election day."

Woods isn't sure how many people will make use of the service but he doesn't want that 15 minute trip to Minto to keep people from voting.

As for the future the municipality is already looking ahead to the provincial election in the spring of 2016.

"We are already looking into that one and want to make sure Elgin has a polling station for that vote expected this coming spring." said Woods.
