Parliament is finally resuming and it takes place this Wednesday.

Member of Parliament for Portage Lisgar and the deputy leader of the Conservative Party Candice Bergen explains how the Conservatives are looking forward to it.

"It begins with the Speech from the Throne, and so we certainly are looking forward to seeing what the Liberal government will be presenting," says Bergen. "Our leader, Erin O'Toole, has talked with the Prime Minister. It was fairly late in the process, so we're not very confident that the Prime Minister really was looking for our input. But needless to say, we've been pretty vocal over the last many months as to some things that we think need to be focused on. We're looking forward to that. We're looking forward to committees resuming. We need to get to the bottom of the WE scandal. There are still a lot of questions to be answered."

She says they were quite disappointed when the Prime Minister and the Liberals prorogued Parliament and cancelled the committees.

"It's important that those are up and running as well as our Canada China committee so that we can again make sure that our sectors that are being penalized by the communist regime in China that we have a rebuttal to that," continues Bergen. "So, we're looking forward to Parliament resuming. Conservatives have been really itching to get back to work, of course, in a very safe and responsible way. But that's going to happen on Wednesday and Conservatives are ready to go."

She explains how Parliament sessions will follow safety protocols with the pandemic still in effect.

"They are very much adjusted because of the pandemic and so we are here in reduced numbers," adds Bergen. "Our Conservative caucus is very much respecting social distancing. We are wearing masks and, of course, we can't have everyone in the chamber. But the speaker and the house leaders have been able to come to an agreement on how many members we can have in the House, and then there will be others who will be joining via Zoom."

Bergen makes reference to the by-elections in the Toronto area that Trudeau recently announced.

"There are two by-elections that have been called which is kind of interesting because the Prime Minister waits and waits and waits for other by-elections," says Bergen. "But these are two seats in Toronto that I'm just quite surprised he's got those called and he's got candidates in there already. But we'll see what that actually means. If that means they're not going to be pushing for an election, or if he'll just blend those by-elections into the election, I guess we'll see. But again, we’ll be ready."
