A huge crowd turned out Sunday for the Mother's Day buffet and kick-off event at the International Peace Garden.

The Garden's Administrative Manager Kathy McGhan was thrilled to see so many visitors to the Peace Garden this early in the season.

“I'm absolutely delighted. We are getting great comments on the food and the interpretive centre. I'm looking forward to a great summer I'm very pleased with how this worked out today” said McGhan.

The Peace Garden is a popular tourist spot for both Canadian and Americans. It was evident on Sunday by the license plates in the parking lot that support was coming from both sides of the border.

McGhan expects they will have a busy summer and she is hoping more people consider the International Peace Garden as a possible destination spot for camping. “We have lots of great spots and even some cabins and it is our hope that people will take time to come on down and do some camping this summer.”

Up next for staff at the Peace Garden will be to plant between 75,000 and 100,000 plants. Greenhouses are bursting and the planting is expected to take place in early June.
