A recreation trust fund has been established and it will leave $55,000 per year in perpetuity.

A former resident and his wife set up the fund through the Vancouver Foundation.

'Lloyd Campbell went to school in Minto decades ago before moving out west and becoming a successful businessman. He and his wife Elsie have both passed away and since then our community has been informed by the foundation this money will start flowing in 2016” said Minto Committee member Gwen Wooley.

The committee has sent out surveys asking community members for their input on how the funds should be spent. There is a stipulation the money be used for youth recreation in the Minto School District.

“This is very exciting for Minto. It has everyone buzzing about the possibilities and how we can improve the community especially for our youth.”

People have until June 30th to return their surveys. “The committee will compile the information and we plan to hold a public meeting on the trust fund this fall.”

Wooley says the possibilities are endless but the committee wants to make sure they make the best use of the new resources coming into the community.

The Campbells set a goal for the fund to supply sports related equipment, transportation, to supply recreational equipment and to maintain playground facilities and other items eligible for the funding.

"We hope by getting around $55,000 every year we can also use those funds to apply for grants and possibly obtain even more funding for any larger projects that might be considered."
