Melita's Strand Theatre will be celebrating 70 years this fall.

Manager Marie Tilbury says the theatre has undergone major renovations over the past few years. Plans are to renovate the front of the building this fall.

She talks about the importance of the theatre to the community.

"It's extremely busy, very important to the community. Many people have expressed that. We have volunteer projectionists and they're very supportive."

A 70th anniversary celebration is being planned, which will include a screening of the new Ice Age movie, along with specials on popcorn and drinks. There will also be a BBQ and birthday cake.

The Strand Theatre receives most of its funding from grants and from donations from the community.
