The 13th annual MCC Manitoba fundraising golf tournament took place at Bridges Golf Club near Starbuck on Wednesday.

It was a sold out event with 144 golfers teeing it up in support of the organization's work in Afghanistan.

"When you work for MCC there are many teams when you are humbled and this is one of them," said Communications and Donor Relations Director Brad Reimer. "For 13 years it has been sold out every year and I believe that this they surpassed the number of sponsors that they've had. Manitobans are very generous and gracious and they are particularly generous to MCC."

The funds raised will specifically assist MCC's partner organization, Help The Afghan Children bring computer education to the young people it's working with.

Meanwhile, Reimer shared why MCC continues to work in Afghanistan.

"Canada was at war in Afghanistan for 10 years. MCC feels we work where some of the most vulnerable people are and in some of the most dangerous places. In this particular case becasue of Canada's military involvement, MCC has felt the Canadian portion of it to be present there in a meaningful way that gives an alternative to a lot of the violence that has been going on.

No amount has been confirmed; however, it is estimated the organization raised just under $50,000 for the cause through the tournament.
