The Manitoba Fiddle Association will hold another Wall of Fame induction ceremony on Sunday, April 24, 2016. The wall at Carman's Community Hall is filling up with plaques after more than thirteen years of inductions. The event honors selected fiddlers, accompanists, and builders.

The inductees for this year are from across Manitoba starting with Denis Encontre of Ile Des Chenes, who was exposed to fiddle music at a very young age every year when his grandparents living room became a dance floor for New Years celebrations.  Allison Granger of Brandon was born into a very musical family and began classical violin lessons at age four. "Fiddlin Red" or Francis Sabiston of Dauphin will be inducted posthumously. He was the youngest of fourteen children born also to a very musical family of all fiddler's playing in a local band, for barn dances and house parties. Charlie Sage of Neepawa will be inducted posthumously also. Charlie's desire to play the fiddle most likely came from his mother's brothers, the Laygns, who played the fiddle, but it also came from his love of music

The event kicks off with dancing and music by some of the best fiddlers in Manitoba, followed by a dinner and the induction ceremony.

"Participation in the event varies from year to year, we would like to see it grow and hope for more interest from the younger generations in the future," said committee Chair Arlene Graham.  "The music is as fantastic as it has always been, but it seems their are less people dancing every year."

The wall continues to serve as recognition of those who have worked to develop and promote fiddle music in their community.
