Classes kicked off yesterday to the school year, and MacGregor Collegiate is excited to start the school year right with improvements made to the gymnasium. Upgrades are in the final stages of completion. Principal Kyle McKinstry talked about what improvements have been made.

"We refinished the gymnasium hardwood flooring," says McKinstry. "We put some really nice cool logos on there for our kids to use, we moved our basketball court over three feet to centre it in the gym, moved our basketball nets over, put any venting systems that we had hanging below the rafters up into the rafters, and at present, we have our maintenance department installing our new LED lighting."

McKinstry says the school is excited to host not only their own school sports there but also the Senior Girls Double-A Volleyball Provincials at the school in November and into December.

"Practices will start tomorrow, for volleyball, we have soccer on the go, we have cross-country, along with golf, so our gym is going to be non-stop busy, really, from now until the end of June."

He notes Pine Creek School Division spent around $75,000 on the project and he's glad to see the school division invest in their kids this way.
