RCMP Media Liaison Constable Sean O'Keefe says over a long weekend, traffic is expected to go up, so make sure you're taking extra precautions.

"We see people heading to their cottages, traveling all over the place. So we want to remind everybody just to be a little more cautious on the roads."

O'Keefe says to plan ahead and leave early for your destination so you don't have to rush. He also notes that while it's alright to enjoy yourself, consuming alcohol or drugs and getting behind the wheel of a vehicle is still very much illegal.

"We know the long weekend is usually time to celebrate, but we would remind everybody that consuming alcoholic beverages and getting behind the wheel, or consuming marijuana and getting behind the wheel is still illegal."

He reminds everyone that if you are going to be consuming alcohol, plan ahead and don't drive while intoxicated or high.
