It's early days for the spring session of the Manitoba legislature.

The session got started a little later than usual and Premier Greg Selinger suggests that may push legislative business a bit deeper into summer.

As far as legislative business is concerned, the budget was voted on this week and passed thanks to the NDP majority.

Next week, a review of department spending estimates will get underway, a process which will take about 100 hours to complete.

Meanwhile, the slump in the oil industry has hit Alberta's economy pretty hard, but Manitoba seems to weathering the storm, due to the fact that our province is less reliant on resource revenue.

In fact, Selinger says Manitoba's resource revenues are actually quite low as a proportion of the total revenue flowing into the government coffers.

On the health care front, construction on a new 10 bed health care centre is well under way in the community of Notre Dame de Lourdes.

Premier Selinger helped turn the sod on the $21 million facility on Monday.

The premier acknowledged the hard work of the community to make the project a reality.

The province says the health centre is the only fully bilingual acute-care facility southwest of Winnipeg.

Construction is expected to be complete by next spring.

These were some of the subjects that Selinger talked about on this week's Premier's Report which can be heard every Friday on CFAM Radio 950 at 11:45am, or if you missed it on radio, visit the CFAM Blog page to hear the full program.
