Judges for the Communities in Bloom International competition will be in Killarney July 22nd and 23rd.

The judges will tour the community's museum, food bank and heritage centre and visit the Keith's Korner park.

Volunteer, Connie Blixhavn stated the community is eligible for more then just the international award.

"There are a couple of awards we are looking at. The Land Reclamation by the Bouchard Gardens and the Polinator Friendly, and those two outstanding awards will be focusing on the new park Keith's Korner because it touches on both those things. We are reclaiming land that was kind of untidy and turning it into an environmentally friendly park for everyone to enjoy and we will also be having a rain garden in there and part of the rain garden will be planted with polinator friendly plants to attract bees."

Blixhavn noted the park built in honor of Killarney Foundation Foundation, Keith Heming will not be completed in time for the judge's visit next weekend.

Meanwhile, she shared when they hope to finish work on the community park.

"If you tell us when it is going to quit raining we will get to work on it," said Blixhavn. "We have to pump out the water that keeps filling the rain garden in and the black dirt has to be spread. We have some mulch that needs to go in and a few more rocks but we really can't do anything until it stops raining because it is quite a mucky area. We are hoping to have it completed by the October long weekend."

She added this won't have an impact on the evaluation as the overall planning is more important than the progress.

Communities in Bloom keeps encouraging residents to help pick up garbage and pull weeds to help clean up the community.

The National Communities in Bloom Awards and Gala will take place in Regina this October.
