The Town of Killarney is entered into the International Category for the Communities in Bloom. A major addition to the town is the new park that is being developed at the corner of Broadway and South Railway.

The Keith’s Korner Park is built to honour Mr. Keith Heming, Founder of the Killarney Foundation. Local councillor and member of Communities in Bloom, Connie Blixhavn, says they have received just over $23,000 from the Foundation for the project. She adds that this has been a community-supported addition to the town as numerous people have contributed in many different ways, from the rocks to the trees to the landscaping.

The theme of the park is to applaud agriculture, and the farming community has certainly been a part of the development of Keith’s Korner. Blixhavn shares they are hoping to have the official opening ceremony in October.

Communities in Bloom member, Shauna Phillips, says once complete, the park will have many wonderful attributes, including a sculpture by Westman artist, Don Engbrecht.

Members of Communities in Bloom invite residents to help out with weeding, picking up any litter and be mindful of helping to keep Killarney the beautiful community that it is.

All are welcome to join the community of Killarney at 1:00 this Thursday afternoon for the sod-turning ceremony of Keith’s Korner Park at 1:00 at the corner of Broadway Avenue and South Railway Street.
