Visitors to the Manitoba WWI Museum, three miles west of La Riviere, will experience the annual Day In The Trenches, where people can learn a little about living through trench warfare.

The display on Sunday Aug. 14, shows people what technology, clothing, and battle strategy was used in the First World War.

"I built some simulated trenches," said Bruce Tascona, the curator of his own museum of artifacts from the First World War. Tascona is hoping that visitors who come for the event will experience something of what life in the trenches was like.

"I'm going to have living history presenters, " Tascona said, "people dressed up in period uniforms, and they're going to explain various aspects of trench warfare."

The event will be focused heavily on interactivity. There will be drills and demonstrations throughout the afternoon.

"It's not about glorifying war, it's about the technology, the material culture," said Tascona. As a student of the First World War, Tascona emphasized the event was meant to educate a horrible part of a horrible war, which most people cannot properly comprehend.

The Manitoba WWI Museum is three miles west of La Riviere and then there will be signs for the exact location.
