The president of HyLife of La Broquerie welcomes new legislation by the provincial government that streamlines the process of constructing new hog barns. Claude Vielfaure says the changes that became law last week are appreciated by HyLife as it continues to work on a significant expansion project.

Claude Vielfaure"I think the government has taken away some of the red tape stuff that really was there for no reason. They've taken away some of the processes that are going to make it easier to be able to get permits to build barns with the same protection of the environment that was there before."

Vielfaure notes HyLife is in the process of developing more new barns. He explains they held an open house in Killarney last week to let the public know they are planning to develop four new barn sites in the Killarney area in the coming year. He adds this is all part of an ongoing huge expansion project.

"We undertook a $150 million project in the last year which is being constructed currently. We have the Neepawa expansion at our (processing) plant which is well underway with completion in spring of 2018. And then we have the big feed mill we're building in Killarney. That should be done by the fall of 2018. With that and the new barns that we are proposing, we will certainly create a more efficient production system for ourselves."
