Daytime highs are forecast to reach the mid 30's for the next few days here in southern Manitoba. Natalie Hasell of Environment Canada says that's well above the normal high of 26 for this time of year.

"We're not looking at record breaking temperatures though. That might come as a surprise to some people, but the records for around this time are in the range of 35 and 36 degrees for the next couple of days."

The record high temperature for Thursday, August 13th is 35.6, for Friday, August 14th, it's 36.7 and for Saturday, August 15th it is 34.8.

Hasell says, even though we are not at record breaking temperatures, it will still be very uncomfortable.

"It will certainly be a series of days where these very hot and humid conditions are going to make it uncomfortable at the very least for a very large number of people. We're looking at a humidex that's going to approach or even reach 40 so it'll feel like it's 40 degrees out there. We have to be careful in these conditions. We also have to be AWARE that the forecast is not just heat, we also have a risk of severe thunderstorms. So, there are a number of things that you need to pay attention to."

Hasell says the heat is expected to break late Saturday or Sunday with the daytime high for Sunday forecast at about 23 degrees.

Daytime highs for parts of southwestern Manitoba on Friday is forecast to hit 36 degrees.
