Hartney teacher, Tracey Salamondra, spent the first two weeks of summer travelling through Germany on a Social Studies tour through the Trans-Atlantic Outreach Program.

Salamondra was 1 of 100 teachers chosen from across North America for this year’s program.  “I had to submit a lesson plan, basically an essay about why I felt this was important for my school, my community and my own education, and I had to have a colleague or principal write a letter of recommendation.”

The Tran-Aatlantic Outreach Program is based at the Goethe-Institut in Washington, DC.  TOP organizes educational study tours to Germany for teachers to learn about contemporary Germany first-hand through experience.

Salamondra says travelling to Germany and learning more about its rich heritage was amazing.

In 2012 Tracey travelled to France to tour the battlefields.  It was there when she realized that going on these types of educational tours is where she learns best. Bringing into her classroom what’s she’s learned out in the world is important to her.  She says she enjoys sharing her travels with her students through story-telling and picture books.

She says she will continue to pursue more travelling options with keeping her classroom in mind.

Tracey Salamondra offers material on the study of Germany to those who are interested.  You can contact her through email   traceys@shmb.ca
