The Samaritan's Purse Gift Catalogue is a great way for Canadians to support people around the world throughout the year, but spokesman Dana Smith says the book is most popular at Christmas.

Smith adds one of the things he feels is unique about the catalogue is that there is a wide range of gifts available in a wide range of price points.

"For as little as six dollars you can get a child a New Testament and The Greatest Journey. On the other side of things there's as much as ten-thousand dollar school filter that a church or community could get together and purchase to support an entire community of children and staff."

Smith goes on to say that there's also a variety of gifts that help further agricultural production.

"For ten dollars you can get a package of starter seeds for a family. On the other end of that you can provide an entire community with agriculture training for fourteen-hundred dollars, you can get four chickens or a goat for forty dollars, share the cost of a cow for a hundred dollars."

He adds the more popular gifts end up being the ones that kids can give, along with gifts that fit in with Samaritan's Purse water projects. Personally, Smith admits he enjoys getting the kids involved.

"They start to realize that Christmas isn't about everything that they get, that it is in fact about giving to others and helping others. For fifteen dollars you can get something as simple as a soccer ball that really do change the lives for kids, I mean it's a big big deal for a kid to get a soccer ball in many developing nations."

Gifts can be purchased through the online catalogue or, if you call 1-800-663-6500, Samaritan's Purse can send you one in the mail.

"I would just encourage people to take some time to look through, find a gift that really touched somebody around the world. It's a great place to find gifts for those impossible to buy for people on your list."

Finally, Smith wishes everyone a very Merry Christmas.
