The Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation has reached its fundraising goal for the Room For Renewal campaign.

The board of directors was able to raise $600,000 in less than one year's time.

That amount represents half of the 10 per cent of the community contribution for the $12 million project. The other 90 per cent will be funded by government.

“It will be a major renovation of basically the entire building,” said Board Chair Derrick Stewart. “It's the old [Brandon] General [Hospital] is what people will know it as. It will move away from four person rooms as much as possible to single and double rooms. The eventual goal is to get to all single rooms for infection control purposes...It will just make for a much better care experience for those people that are required to stay in the hospital.”

Stewart says two of their big fundraisers during the past year were the BRHC Foundation Gala as well as a Vintage Vegas Fundraiser event.

The patient wards of the Brandon Regional Health Centre were built in 1961 and have remained virtually unchanged since that time.
