A new feed mill will be built just outside of Killarney and work will get underway this summer.

A conditional use hearing took place on Wednesday and in the end the local council approved the permit and that paved the way for the $20 million project to move forward.

In the crowd was Dave Penner COO with HyLife the company that is building the new feed mill. “I thought the hearing went fine and now we can get down to work on building the feed mill that will service our barns in the region.”

HyLife has been doing business in the Killarney area over the past 14 years and Penner says they look forward to getting the new mill up and running. “We should start construction sometime over the next few months and we hope to have the mill open by the fall of 2018.”

The mill will convert grains into feed pellets that will be used by the local hog barns. “We use wheat, barley and corn and may source some of those grains from local producers” said Penner.

The new feed mill will be built just off of Highway 18 along the Neelin Road northeast of Killarney. The mill will employ 20 people.

The construction phase is expected to generate as many as 100 jobs.
