Environment Canada has started the process of assessing the damage from Monday night's tornado in southwestern Manitoba.

Warning Preparedness Meteorologist Natalie Hasell says crews will start in the Virden area because that was the last spot that there was a visual report of the twister.

She notes the tornado will be rated by the level of damage caused and not the actual windspeeds that occurred.

Hasell says they are also looking for input from the public in order to help with their investigation.

People can phone the severe weather reporting line at 1-800-239-0484 or email to storm@ec.gc.ca.
