Endow Manitoba Day on November 18th proved to be a productive one for many foundations in the province.

That is the day people are encouraged to donate to their local foundation and those foundations can pick up some matching dollars if they reach a certain amount.

“We received $12,760 and because we surpassed $10,000 we will pick up another $4,000 in matching dollars” said Boissevain-Morton Foundation’s executive director Raylene Conway-Smith.

The Winnipeg Foundation and Province of Manitoba supplied the matching grants. For every $5 raised locally those groups contributed another $1 each, up to a maximum of $2,000 each.

“That money, $16,760, goes right into our granting pool and eventually ends up back in the community. I was also pleased to see a number of new donors this year.”

The Boissevain-Morton Foundation remains busy handing out money. In early November the group handed out non-designated grants and Conway-Smith says she’ll be busy writing cheques totaling $52,000 in designated grants that going to various community groups and organizations.

In 2017 the Boissevain-Morton Foundation will disperse $132,000.
