Deloraine Winchester Reeve Gord Weidenhamer hopes to see lots of names on the ballot for the October 24th election.

Right now Weidenhamer is worried because there doesn’t seem to be much interest from people wanting to run for council.

“Not a whole lot of people coming forward and we are moving to this ward system for each area and that could be a little confusing for some voters, especially in town because it hasn’t been in a ward system. If people have an interest they should step forward. If you have an opinion please come forward but people need to remember that we represent the entire municipality.”

Deloraine will have three councilors and the rural area will have three making up the six wards and then the head of council. So far Weidenhamer is the only person to declare he is seeking that position.

“A person can run in any of the wards but they need to get signatures from people in that ward to run in the election. The ward system is for election purposes only and if you get elected onto council you then represent the entire municipality and not just one ward.”

Weidenhamer said no nomination papers have been taken out to run in the rural wards.
