Tonight children will be gathering candy throughout their neighbourhoods, and parents are advised to urge them to hold things back a little afterward. Chronic disease dietitian educator Jill Anderson provides some tips.

"I think it's important that parents encourage their children to enjoy the treats in moderation," explains Anderson. "Have a few treats the night of. Then put them away and enjoy one or two small pieces of candy each day after, and of course brushing their teeth as soon as possible after eating the treats."

She explains too much sugar quickly fills their tummies without adding any vitamins or nutrients whatsoever. Anderson notes these can lead to health concerns.
