A wind gust turned a playful day into a trip to the hospital for a youth form south central Manitoba.

An eight year old boy was in hospital Monday after a gust of wind sent the inflated bouncer he was playing in ten feet into the air.

Maison and his four year old brother Rylan were playing in the inflatables at Meadows Golf & Amusements Sunday afternoon when a sudden gust picked up their bouncer and carried it a short distance before coming down and snagging on a fence. While Rylan had just exited the inflatable, Maison was tipped out of the bouncer breaking his arm. His parents took him to Boundary Trails Health Centre before being transported to the Winnipeg Children's Hospital.

The Peters thanked Meadows Golf & Amusements staff for their professionalism and help throughout the incident

"It just lifted up the whole bouncy house," Maison's mother Norma Peters explains. "It was quite terrifying."

Landing on gravel Maison also received deep gashes on his forehead and knees. While doctors were concerned about bruising to Maison's chest, Norma explains they have since ruled out it out the possibility of a collapsed lung and internal bleeding. She notes thankfully Maison did not lose consciousness after the fall.

"I'm just really thankful there was a fence there that caught it, because all I kept thinking is "oh my goodness how far are they going to fly, where are they going to end up?""

While terrifying the Peters are thankful Maison's injuries are not worse, and Rylan was unhurt.

Meadows Golf & Amusements' Owner Abe Epp explains the combination of an unusually strong gust of wind and the wet ground from recent rains created the conditions for the freak accident.

"The ground being soft that doesn't help," Epp says. "They're all anchored down but it pulled the anchors right out of the ground. It was just a really freaky gust that popped it up and flipped it over."

While the Peters do not blame Meadows for the accident, Norma says their message to parents is to avoid bouncy castles in windy conditions.

Maison's father John explains the incident has not put a damper on their love for Meadows Golf & Amusements.

"They did nothing wrong, they're very good people," he says, adding staff were very helpful and professional when the accident occurred.

"It's a good thing they have running there," he says.

Maison has since been released from hospital and is recovering at home.
