After 14 years of serving as the Manitoba Regional Representative for the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, Harold Penner will be stepping aside to take on a new role as a liason between volunteers and the head office in Winnipeg, allowing him to delve deeper into the fight against world hunger.

Penner will continue to support and encourage those across the country who are interested in solving hunger worldwide, while also collecting resources to do so.

During his time in his former position, Penner said what he enjoyed most about being the regional representative was working with people who wanted to make a difference in the world.

"It's just amazing the heart that people have. People understand that we are so blessed in this country ... I meet all these wonderful people who want to be a part of the solution, and feel that Canadian Foodgrains Bank is a good way to do it, and we can work together to have community projects. That's one of the biggest blessings of this work -- all the wonderful people you work with," he said.

He also noted the dedication and passion shown by farmers and volunteers within the region.

"The Community Growing Projects have been a huge part of our fundraising, and it's so effective because it gets communities of people working together and gets a lot of people thinking about hunger and what we can do about it ... Manitoba has done very well [in raising resources]," he said.

Penner would like to say thank you to the many volunteers and supporters of the Canadian Foodgrains Bank who have helped to improve the hunger situation.
