Fifty soldiers from CFB Shilo are training for a gruelling 50 km triathlon Thursday in and around Ninette.  The troop will be running along Highway 23 through Ninette along the north shore of Pelican Lake and through the town for a 17.5 km run, and a 3 km canoe portage.  They will be continuing the race by paddling 5 km on Pelican Lake, all the while carrying a 35 lb backpack.

The training session is to be held between 8am-1pm Thursday, July 13th and motorists are cautioned to be careful when passing the soldiers in training.

The Mountain Man is a fitness challenge that has four legs; a 32 km foot race, a 3.6 km canoe portage, a 10 km canoe race and finally the final 5.6 km foot race to the finish line.  It’s a total of just over 50 kms with competitors carrying an Army-issue ruck sack with a minimum 15 kg load strapped to their backs.

The Mountain Man event is held every year in September in Edmonton, Alberta.
