Boissevain-Morton Fire Chief Martin Paradis says people continue to light fires despite the fact the municipality issued a ban on fires in early May.

The most recent fire was on Wednesday about five kilometres north of Boissevain. “Someone was doing some burning around a slough and we got a call to respond to the fire” said Chief Paradis.

He adds they have been called out three times since the ban was implemented.

‘We urge people to hold off from burning. There has been some rain but not a lot. We respond to these calls and then come back and have issued fines.”

Some of the fines total more than $1,000.
