Brandon and CFB Shilo’s Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps has been recognized for the work done by staff and corps members.
The Brandon/Shilo Corps was awarded the Top Army Cadet Corps in the Northwest Region at their Annual Ceremonial Review on June 6th at the Brandon Armoury.
“To achieve top standing across three provinces and three territories is an amazing accomplishment,” LCol Claveau shared.  The Northwest Region, which includes Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and the three northern territories, is the home of 216 army and sea cadet corps and air cadet squadrons combined. “That’s a large region and this corps is top for army for good reason,” she said. “The growth, activities, applying for camps and various awards, and the involvement and contributions to their communities (Brandon, Shilo and Westman area), that helped to make the decision to name this corps top of the region.”

This is the fourth year in a row that the Brandon / Shilo corps has won top standings in their training region which includes most of Manitoba. But it is the first time they have achieved top Army Cadet Corps in the North West region, which spans the western half of Canada, not including BC. "It's due to the dedication of the kids, their families and our staff that make this program so successful," says Captain Lussier. "That also includes the members of the Canadian Armed Forces who work and train at CFB Shilo, and volunteer their time each week and throughout the year at various training exercises. This award belongs to all of us!"
The Cadet Program is a national youth development program which aims to grow in youth the attributes of good citizenship and leadership, promote physical fitness, and stimulate the interest of youth in the sea, land and air activities of the Canadian Forces.
