The Brandon School Division has hired Dr. Marc Casavant as its new Superintendent of Schools. Casavant brings considerable experience to the job with over ten years in senior leadership roles.

Dr. Casavant began his career in 1995 where he taught grades 9 through 12 before becoming Principal of Stobart Elementary Community School in Duck Lake, Saskatchewan. He obtained his Ph.D in Educational Administration from the University of Saskatchewan in 2001, and not long after in 2004, became the Director of Education for the Eastend School Division in Saskatchewan.

He has advanced system priorities in areas such as assessment, curriculum implementation, early learning, First Nations and Metis Education and graduation rates.

“The Board of Trustees is very happy to have Marc joining the Brandon School Division. Marc’s education, experience and leadership will be a great addition to the superb Senior Administrative team already assembled. We look forward to working with him starting in July,” said Trustee Chair Mr. Mark Sefton.

Dr. Casavant is thrilled and looking forward to relocating to Brandon, Manitoba with his wife and three (3) children.

I feel fortunate coming to a school division with such a strong reputation and am looking forward to serving the students, staff, parents, community, and the Board of Trustees as we work collaboratively in achieving the vision, mission, values and strategic priorities of the Brandon School Division.”

He will take over as Superintendent of Schools for the Brandon School Division, from Superintendent Dr. Donna Michaels who retires after 15 years with the Brandon School Division and 50 years as a public educator in Canada.

Dr. Casavant will begin his new job on July 1, 2016.
