A high school hockey team from Brandon is about to set out on the trip of a lifetime.

Members of the Crocus Plains Plainsmen leave December 27th for a trip to Europe. Coach Peter Gerlinger says they will be travel to Sweden and Finland. “We will play four exhibition games and get to take in a number of games at the World Juniors in Helsinki, including the gold medal game.”

Gerlinger has coached the Plainsmen for the past eight year and he has taken several teams on hockey trips, most to the United States.

“I started scouring the internet looking for places to take this year's team and this European trip came up and it was too good to turn down.”

Gerlinger hopes to cash in on the fact Kelly McCrimmon, the owner of the Brandon Wheat Kings, is an assistant coach with Team Canada. “I hope Kelly will allow us to watch a practice and maybe even meet some of the Team Canada players.

The Crocus Plains team will be gone for 11 days.
