Reaching a milestone like a 75-year anniversary is impressive for anybody, and there's a church in Brandon that has reached it.

Pastor Darryl McAuley, the current lead pastor of McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church, is looking forward to celebrating his church's 75th anniversary next weekend.

A banquet featuring a former pastor of the church will start the party off Saturday, April 8, and continue to a special reflection service Sunday morning.

"Sunday morning is going to be a big part of our weekend," said McAuley.

It will focus on remembering the legacy of the church through music from choirs who were once regular features at the church and through a sermon by a former pastor.

The church started in 1942 amidst the Second World War. A handful of people decided to start a new church in Brandon, the Alliance Chapel. The original building is still sitting on the same street, though it's a restaurant now.

After a few years, the congregation moved to a new building and stayed at that location until 1970 when the parishioners relocated into their current church.

"We changed our name [at that point] and became the McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church," said McAuley.

"We've always served Westman," he added. "There's been people that will drive in every Sunday."

Today, the congregation is diverse in age, ranging from infants only a few weeks old to a congregant 95 years young with an average of 470 people attending each Sunday.
