Fifteen baseball teams will be competing for a Provincial title this weekend in Boissevain.

The Mosquito "AA" Provincial championships will be held July 15th to 17th at the local diamonds.

"We are using all three of the Lion's diamonds so they will be in use all weekend long," explained President of Boissevain Minor Baseball, Ryan Albrecht. "We have been doing lots of work to them and have had lots of volunteers and staff out there doing a really good job getting them all ready and cleaned up. They are looking really good, we are just hoping the rain stays away so they can stay nice and dry."

Albrect, who coaches the local 10 and 11 year old team, noted that despite being the host they also earned their way into the competition by winning the Oildome league championship.

He expects the young team to do well against the toughest teams from across the province.

"The expectations are high, we had a really good season," stated Albrecht. "We only lost 2 games all year and we played really well. We are a young team, we have mostly minors, but we have had a good year and obviously this is going to be our toughest test yet with some other really good teams here. We are looking to do quite well. We've played some of these teams already this year and done pretty good."

Meanwhile, the Boissevain hotels are all booked up this weekend.

The President of Boissevain Minor Baseball talked about the impact the tournament will have on the community.

"I think it will be huge. We are talking about 15 teams with about 12 to 15 kids per team coming to Boissevain for the entire weekend. I am sure there will be lots of spin off for the town with the restaurants, the pool and the stores all over the place. There will be lots of people around town all weekend so it should be good for everybody."

Albrecht expects visitors to also be staying in Killarney, Deloraine, Brandon and at the local campgrounds.

The last time Boissevain hosted a provincial championship was last year's Bantam "A" Provincial Championship.
