A cattle breeder from Kemnay has been busy this past week doing volunteer work at Ag-Ex in Brandon.

Kyle Wright grew up in Boissevain and has been involved in the cattle business since he was in school and he still enjoys the work.

“My job here this week was barn boss for the Limousin breed and I basically act as a go between with the producers and exhibition to make sure everyone has what they need and is happy.”

Wright says Ag-Ex remains a great way to promote the beef industry while at the same time giving producers a chance to promote their own cattle. “The Limousin breed remains especially in Manitoba. Our age group is getting older but as you get into Saskatchewan, Alberta and even southern Ontario it remains a strong breed.”

The mood at this year’s cattle show was quite positive and Wright says overall things looks pretty good. “The mood is good although we have seen a drop in cattle prices in the cow market. Calves are still holding strong as we see a lot of calves hitting the fall run."
