Assiniboine Community College in Brandon has wrapped up a successful fund raising campaign.

The college tapped into its alumni with its first ever 30K in 30 Days campaign. The college wanted to raise $30,000 in 30 days with the money going to help fund awards, bursaries and scholarships. “This giving campaign allowed us to reach out to alumni, their employers and friends to get donations and help us reach our fund raising goal” said Lisa Huston ACC’s ALUMNI Relations Coordinator.

The campaign started in mid October and concluded on November 15th. The final total was just over $31,000.

“I’m not surprised at all that the alumni and other supporters stepped up and helped us reach our goal. It just shows the level of giving that our alumni has and their giving spirit is tremendous. To watch all this play out was really satisfying for me.”

Huston says across Canada you will find that not many universities and in particular colleges raise money from their alumni. She says it’s something you see a lot more of in the United States.

“I didn’t doubt for a minute that ACC’s alumni didn’t have that giving spirit in them. It’s only natural because of the experience students have at ACC before they graduate makes them want to give back so I’m not surprised at all” said Huston.

Huston says now more than ever awards, bursaries and scholarships are needed to help students to reach their goals
