On Monday, Brandon-Souris MP Larry Maguire revealed that border facilities at Boissevain, Lena, Cartwright and Crystal City would be receiving $25 million in upgrades.

The border crossing at Boissevain is the second largest in Manitoba.

Maguire said the reconstruction projects are much needed.

"Some of them have lasted, let's put it this way, longer than their normal life would be. I think that's why it's so important and significant that we upgrade these ports so that we can maintain the safety and security of our country."

The infrastructure investment includes design finalization, site services, geotechnical and environmental assessments, as well as modular building construction, including structural, mechanical, electrical, internal fit-up, commissioning, project management and signage.

Maguire is hoping to see the work get underway this fall.

The projects are part of the Government of Canada’s $440 million in infrastructure funding announced in November 2014 and included in the 2015 budget.
