The ultimate prize has yet to be awarded in the South West Baseball League, but the efforts of individual players were recognized today as the league handed out its player awards.

The Boissevain Centennials and Oak River Dodgers are currently deadlocked at a game apiece in the best-of-5 championship series, but several players in the series got the nod for their outstanding contributions to their team. Two Boissevain players - Patrick Vandoorne and Zane Sawyer - were acknowledged for their achievements this season. Vandoorne took home both the league's Most Valuable Player award along with the league batting title. This season saw him hit for a .620 batting average, including a homer and 11 RBI's, while scoring 21 runs and stealing 13 bases. On the mound, Vandoorne recorded a win this season for the Centennials as well as a save. Sawyer, meanwhile, was also recognized for his work on the mound, being named the league's top pitcher. Sawyer notched a 1.24 ERA over the course of this season.

The Mark Minor Most Inspirational Player Award was also awarded today. Dana McNish of the Rivers Comets was this year's recipient, with teammates describing Dana as the team's emotional leader. In addition to playing for the Comets, Dana also serves as a coach in the Rivers Minor Baseball organization, and also sits on the executive of the Rivers Baseball Association, which manages and runs the ballpark. Dana was also one of the team's leaders on the diamond, batting .469 with 3 home runs to bring his team into the playoffs.

John Patmore of the Reston Rockets was awarded Rookie of the Year honours. Patmore's .407 batting average, 2 homers, 19 runs scored and 13 RBI's were a bright spot in Reston's season. Even though they didn't play in the SWBL playoffs, they did win the Senior "A" provincial championship this past weekend.

Game three of the SWBL final goes tonight in Boissevain. First pitch is at 6:30pm.
