The Killarney Shamrocks are one win away from capturing Hockey Manitoba's Provincial Senior “A” championship banner.

Reid Gow had two goals and three assists as the Tiger Hills Hockey League champions defeated the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League champion Carman Beavers 5-2 Saturday night at MTS Iceplex.

“It feels pretty good,” said Killarney captain Jamie Schultz. “Obviously the league was the number one goal, but being here, seeing we can compete against the other top teams in the province is a big boost and the boys deserve it.”

Isaac Friesen also scored twice for the Shamrocks while Jesse Bernard had the other Killarney goal.

Brian Archibald was solid in net stopping 26 shots.

Schultz explained how they were able to neutralize an explosive Beavers team in Saturday's semifinal.

“I think it starts with Archibald in net. What he does night-in and night-out makes our job so much easier and working with Reid (Gow) and (Chris) Low from Souris and (Colton) Magwood and Clayton Heinrichs and Spencer Haney – it's just a collective effort and it feels good to get the win.”

The Shamrocks will meet the Lac du Bonnet Blues in the championship game Sunday (2:30 p.m.) at MTS Iceplex.

The Blues edged the Carillon Senior Hockey League champion Ste. Anne Aces 3-2 in the other semifinal.

And how would it feel to bring a provincial banner with them back home to Killarney on Sunday night?

“It would be awesome,” answered Schultz. “It would be icing on the cake for this year.”
