The Boissevain Bronco's run at the 2017 Provincial High School Baseball Championship came to an end with a 17-3 loss to the Portage Collegiate Trojans in the championship game Saturday afternoon at Access Field in Altona.

"We aren't disappointed. We are a small school, have three grade nines in the starting line up and to get to this point we pretty thrilled," said coach Keith Forsyth. "Portage is a good team and unfortunately we didn't give them as much as a game as I was hoping to, but with pitch count rules. We had thirteen kids try out and they're all on the roster."

After a scoreless first inning, the Trojans' bats came alive and scored five in the second, five more in the third, and another seven in the fourth.

Meanwhile, the Broncos would tally their three runs with a solo blast by Jared McCorrister in the top of the fourth and would shorten the Trojans lead by two more in their half of the fifth.

"It felt great off the bat that's for sure," said McCorrister. "I knew with the wind carrying it I thought there was a good chance for it to leave the park and it did."

The Broncos' gave the start to AJ Strain, who gave up five runs on four hits while walking three and striking out one. Kyle Hole came on in relief of Strain and gave up 12 runs on 10 hits, and walked five.

PCI's Joey Moffat pitched a complete game four-hitter while, allowing three runs, walking two and struck out six.

Tournament MVP honours went to Tanner Boyle of the champion Trojans.

The Bronco's are two years removed from capturing the 2015 provincial championship and are moving in the right direction to capture another in the near future.
