Mark Scheifele scored his 10th goal of the season with 19.9 seconds left in overtime to lift the Winnipeg Jets past the Washington Capitals 2-1 Saturday afternoon at MTS Centre.

"Being in a game that tight, having its ebbs and flows, going back and forth, power play to power play, killing the big penalty, a goal going in and not being able to create a whole lot, it was a pretty big neutral zone battle," said Scheifele. "For the most part we stuck with it, we didn’t get frustrated; we didn’t get rattled. It showed, and getting the win is huge."

Winnipeg captain Andrew Ladd scored a power play goal with seven second remaining in the first period and Nicklas Backstrom had the Capitals lone goal of regulation as he scored while Washington had the manadvantage with 5:35 left in the middle frame.

Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck stopped 37 shots including six in overtime while Caps netminder Braden Holtby faced 36 shots.

Winnipeg (13-12-2) will meet the defending Stanley Cup champion Blackhawks in Chicago on Sunday.
