The Kelowna Rockets captured game one of the Western Hockey Leagues Championship series downing the Wheat Kings 4-3 Friday night in Brandon.

Leon Draisaitl's goal with 1:10 remaining in the second period snapped a 3-3 tie and that turned out to be the game winner as the visiting Rockets took home ice advantage in the opening game of the best-of-seven series.

The Wheat Kings, who rallied from a 3-1 deficit to even the score moments before the game winner, will be hoping to bounce back in game two of the series on Saturday night.

Tyson Baillie, Chance Braid and Justin Kirkland rounded out the scoring for the Rockets, who grabbed a two-goal lead in the second when they fired back to back goals 27 seconds apart in the opening 79 seconds.

Rihards Bukarts scored twice in the losing cause for the Wheat Kings, who were out shot 40-28 and lost on home ice for the first time since their playoff series opener against Edmonton.

Captain Peter Quenneville rounded out the scoring for the Wheat Kings, who finished the game 2 for 3 with the man advantage.

A 20-year old Edmonton native, Quenneville says the team will be ready for game two on Saturday night.

"We've been here before and I know we will have a strong bounce back game tomorrow."

Brandon coach Kelly McCrimmon says he needs more out of his team.

“We played some inconsistent hockey and we need to be better and we will be better next game.”

The loss snapped Brandon's seven-game home ice winning streak, before a "Standing Room Only" crowd of 5,502.

The winner will advance to the MasterCard Memorial Cup in Quebec City.
