The Baldur Regals are Western Canadian Senior "AA" Baseball Champions.

The Regals routed the Regina Trappers 10-0 in the championship final Sunday afternoon to claim the title on home field.

"The boys played well all weekend," said Regals player-coach Darrick Jones.  "It was unreal actually playing in front of our home crowd and just getting to know the support from everybody around here, it makes quite a difference."

Baldur opened the tournament with a 7-1 win over the St. James A's.  The Regals then picked up wins over Regina, Marysburg and Calgary to earn the first place seed in the final.

"I honestly think it was timely hitting again and good defense and pitching," stated Jones when asked about the team's success.  "We have done that through all those tournaments we have been able to win and it happened again this weekend."

Meanwhile, Jones was named Co-MVP alongside pitcher Anthony Friesen.

"I honestly wasn't expecting a thing," said Jones.  "I knew Anthony threw well and I was totally giving that to him.  It's one of those things where I am trying to help everyone else.  It was totally a shock but very much appreciated."

Jones noted this championship is one of the top highlights for the community; adding it was very special playing in front of 500 to 600 fans in the championship game.

He added baseball in Baldur continues to have success thanks to everyone buying in to the program and being part of something during the summer.

This isn't the first time Baldur has won a Western Canadian title. The Regals won the championship in Peace River, Alberta back in 2009.
