The Killarney Shamrocks are Hockey Manitoba Provincial Senior “A” champions.

Isaac Friesen scored three times and Clayton Heinrichs had three assists as the Shamrocks defeated the Manitoba Senior Hockey League champion Lac du Bonnet Blues 9-4 Sunday afternoon at MTS Iceplex.

“It was an awesome game and an awesome tournament,” said Friesen. “The best part about it is we're all pretty much local from Killarney so we all grew up together. It was a fun tournament and we've got bragging rights for this year.”

Daniel Stagg added a pair of goals for the Tiger Hills Hockey League champions who beat the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League champion Carman Beavers 6-3 in the semifinals on Saturday night.

Brayden Cuthbert, Colton Magwood, Jesse Bernard and Reid Gow also scored for Killarney on Sunday.

Brian Archibald made 29 saves.

Gow says Archibald's steady play between the pipes was one of the reasons the THHL champs were able to win the provincials.

“He makes every big stop. Brian's an awesome goalie. We picked up a few Souris guys and they were awesome help. Every team picked up guys and ours fit in so well with our team. The boys just continued to roll. It was good.”

The Shamrocks added three players from the Elks - defenseman Chris Low, forward Jonathon Filewich and goaltender Kris Westblom - to their roster for the provincials.

“The boys battled this weekend,” said Shamrocks coach Shayne Skeoch. “We had everyone healthy, everyone came to play and it showed. Our best players today were our best players as you can see on the scoresheet.”

Killarney is the second Tiger Hills Hockey League team to win the Provincial Senior “A” title.

The Deloraine Royals were provincial champions two years ago.
