Riley Penner hit a bases loaded walk-off single through the Whips third basemen and shortstop gap to propel the Pilots over Winkler 3-2 Friday night.

"I had been hitting it right at them all game. I was just looking for a pitch that I could elevate and I was able to sneak one past the third basemen," said Penner.

"It was a good feeling. It's nice to be one win away from the championship," added Penner.

The game started out in a stale mate with no runs being scored in the first three innings. It wasn't until the fourth inning when the home town Pilots broke the scoreless game open with a pair of runs.

Winkler fired right back in their half of the fifth and tied the game up at two runs a piece.

After the Whips went three-up-three down in the top of the seventh, Pilot Mound got the bases loaded after an intentional walk that brought up Penner. Penner had a walk, a 6-3 put-out, and a fly out in his three previoius at-bats. He made the most of the situation and showed his team he was the man for the job and brought home Clint Maxwell from third with a walk-off single to put the Pilots within one win of their first Border West Baseball League championship.

Abe Friesen got the start for the Whips, took the loss in a three run complete game six hitter, while adding three K's along the way. Meanwhile, Anthony Friesen pitched a complete game for the Pilots and got the win. Friesen gave up two runs on nine hits, and struck out eight.

Winkler looks to stave off elimination in game four Monday night in Winkler with first pitch at 6:45 p.m.

"We have to come out and pick off where we left off here tonight (Friday) defensively. We can't give them any extra outs," said Whips first base Alex Howe. "We have a very good defence and we build off of that. Then we scratch and claw for every run we can get. If we do that, especially with what we expect is going to be another huge crowd at home, we should be ready to go Monday night."
