Anthony Friesen tossed a complete game four hitter and struck out 14 Winkler Whips as the Pilot Mound Pilots took the first game of the best-of-five Border West Baseball League final series 2-1 Tuesday night.

"I threw pretty good, considering I threw Sunday. I felt good out there," said Friesen.

Pilot Mound tallied once in the first and once in the fourth for their two runs, while the Whips brought home their one run in their half of the third inning.

It was a bit of a pitching and defensive battle out there in game one.

"It's kind of how we have been playing in playoffs," said Winkler Shortstop Bill Fehr. "We've got excellent pitching and we've been fielding the ball well. That's how we are going to win close games like these here tonight."

John Elias got the start on the hill for Winkler and pitched a complete game allowed two runs, on seven hits, walked four and struck out a pair.

Game two goes Wednesday night in Winkler.
