The Virden Oil Capitals picked four defensmen, five forwards and a goaltender at the 2015 Manitoba Junior Hockey League Bantam Draft Sunday in Neepawa.

The very first pick was blueliner Garrett Sambrook of Medora who was chosen fifth overall by Oil Capitals head coach and general manager Troy Leslie.

"Garrett's a guy that we've targeted for a long time," said Leslie. "An interesting side of that, is I taught him back in initiation and he's the same age as my son. I taught him in minor hockey for about three of four years and then obviously when we moved to Virden we kept following him and we're very comfortable making that pick."

Virden also selected defensmen Marco Creta of Oak Bluff and Justin Lee of Waskada in round two, forward Hunter Cloutier of Winnipeg in round three, forward Josh Belcher of Rapid City in round four, forward Jack Einarson of Gimli and defenseman Nick Hatley of Morden in round five and foward Owen Blocker of Cooks Creek in round six.

The Oil Capitals two auto protected list players were foward Tanner Andrew of Virden and goaltender Riley Wallace of Oak Lake.

Leslie was more than happy with his draft day results.

"We feel great about them," Leslie said. "We had a few extra selections this year and we were able to get a little bit of everything. We've got some guys that can score, we've got some good size, we've got defensemen that can move the puck and we've got some big blueliners as well. When you have that many picks and can get the guys you target - you're obviously very happy."

The Neepawa Natives had the first overall pick and selected forward Mackenzie Belinski of Vista.

Forward Grady Hobbs of Deloraine went to the Dauphin Kings third overall in round one. Forward Jared McCorrister of Boissevain went to the Swan Valley Stampeders in round two. Defenseman Ben Hillhorst of Killarney was selected by Neepawa in round three and defenseman Ryder Richmond of Forrest went to Dauphin in round four.
