A Manitoba gymnast is starting to reach the medal podium at world competitions.
Isabela Onyshko of Minnedosa picked up medals this past weekend at a World Cup gymnastics competition in Slovenia.

Onyshko captured gold and silver medals at the competition.
The 16-year-old won the balance beam and finished second in the floor exercise. On Saturday, she won the uneven bars final.

“Her success over the past couple of weeks has been amazing” said Kathy Stoesz, Executive Director with the Manitoba Gymnastics Association.

“It's not surprising because she has come up over the past year from the Commonwealth Games team and then onto the World Championships in China. Now she's winning medals at World Cup events.”

Stoesz says her rise in the ranks is quite remarkable. “She finished 29th out of 175 competitors at the World Championship in China late last year. Now the team is busy building for the Pan-Am Games and the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.”

Onyshko is now one of Canada's top female gymnasts and Stoesz says without question she will be on the Canadian Team heading to the next Olympics.
