The last two undefeated teams meet tonight (6 p.m.) in the 1-2 page playoff game at the 2018 Viterra Provincial Men’s Curling Championship in Winkler.

Reid Carruthers of West St. Paul and Mike McEwen of Fort Rouge both won their fifth straight games this morning.

B.J. Neufeld, Matt Wozniak and Denni Neufeld defeated reigning Provincial Junior champion J.T. Ryan of Assiniboine Memorial 5-3.

The two-time time defending champions played without their skip for the fourth straight game as McEwen is suffering from chickenpox.

“We’re building as we go,” said Denni Neufeld who is throwing the first three rocks. “It’s a different mentality out there especially for me. Calling line is totally different. I haven’t called line in years. It’s definitely a challenge but I think we’re getting better and better as each game goes.”

Carruthers downed Travis Bale of Fort Rouge 8-4 and the 2015 champion is looking forward to playing Neufeld, Wozniak and Neufeld.

“If everyone’s throwing well with a team of three, especially with the way sweeping is and only really needing one, it’s not really a disadvantage – especially if they’re playing well. From the little snippets of what I saw this week, they’re playing well and so are we go it should be a great battle tonight,”

Steve Irwin of Brandon will face Bale and Daniel Birchard of Pembina will take on Ryan at 2 p.m. in the Playoff Round “B” qualifiers.

The winners will meet in the 3-4 page playoff game.

Irwin outscored Pat Simmons of the Granite 9-8 and Birchard beat David Bohn of Assiniboine Memorial 6-5.
