The Brandon Marlins and Moose Jaw Regals were both looking to improve their mark to 2-1 when they faced each other Saturday afternoon at the Western Canadian Junior AAA Baseball Championships Saturday afternoon. The Regals were coming off a loss in the morning against the Pembina Valley Orioles. The Marlins a win over the host Weyburn A's Friday evening. It would be the Marlins who came out on top, with a 12-1 victory.

The Marlins opened the scoring in the fourth inning, when a single from Jay Pringle scored Daylan Creasy. Moose Jaw starting pitcher Colin Gudereit managed to pitch his way out of the inning, though, limiting the damage. His final strikeout of the inning, against Aaron Pugh, left two runners stranded, including one in scoring position.

Brandon's starting pitcher, Dylan Haney, went four and a third innings before he gave up his first hit of the game, a single to centre by Dylan Pisio. The Regals wouldn't be able to capitalize with the baserunners, though, and a strikeout left two runners stranded. Haney would go the complete distance to earn the shutout victory.

The Marlins would get their bats working again to open the fifth inning, with Jordan Robertson and Clark Whelpton getting on base with singles. A single from Skylar Canada along the third base line would bring home Robertson, and would be enough for a pitching change, with Conner Loeppky coming on to replace Gudereit. A bunt by Mitchell Lyall, though, would load the bases, as the first baseman moved in on the ball, leaving nowhere for Loeppky to throw the ball after he played it. A follow-up single from Creasy would score a run, and keep the bases loaded. The Regals were able to turn a double play, though, and followed it up with a ground out play at first base to limit the damage in the inning.

Moose Jaw's defense would be plagued by errors in the sixth inning, with a bobbled ball on a hit by Aaron Pugh getting him on base. Another drop, this time by first baseman Zeb Smith, led to a run coming across. Canada then came to bat, and added another RBI to his total for the tournament. Six more runs would cross the plate for Brandon in the final frame, including three on a double from Whelpton.

Moose Jaw finally got on the board in the bottom of the seventh, when Smith singled down the third base line, bringing home Bryce Crosbie. That would prove to be all the offense Moose Jaw could muster for the day, though, as Haney and company retired the rest of the side in order.
