The Winnipeg Jets let a 3-1 second period lead slip away, as they dropped another game this season to the central division rival St. Louis Blues.

Mark Scheifele tipped in a Tyler Myers point shot at 4:10 of the first period to give Winnipeg a 1-0 lead. Winnipeg would hold the lead going into the first period intermission.

St. Louis tied the game up 16 seconds into the second period on a goal by Troy Brouwer.

Chris Thornburn would regain the lead for Winnipeg with a goal at the 5:54 mark of the second period. Myers picked up his second assist of the game on the goal.

Winnipeg would go ahead by a pair of goals after Drew Stafford netted his 11th goal of the season at 8:30 of the second period.

St. Louis cut the lead to one with an Alexander Steen power play goal at 18:25 of the second. The Blues would eventually tie the game at three with a Vladimir Tarasenko power play goal 51 seconds into the third.

Paul Stastny would score the game winning goal with less than five minutes left in the third to give the Blues a 4-3 lead.

Winnipeg lost their first game of the season when leading after two periods of play.

"It’s a tough one because you’re going to like a lot of what you did, and never control the game," said Head Coach Paul Maurice. "They had a stretch early in the second period where they were on us pretty good and felt we held water, got some saves.  After that there won’t be a part of the game where they had some chances we had some chances, some real good chances to score and you give up four, that’s tough. You give up a 2-on-1, you give up a 3-on-1, and you give up two power play goals.  That’s just not good enough defence, we had some good offence in the game. I understand that St. Louis is going to get some chances because I know they understand we are going to get some chances.  You give up four, you can’t do it."

Chris Thorburn, who put the Jets ahead in the second, says specialty teams was the difference in the game.

"They took advantage of their power plays.  So I would probably accredit it to that," he said. "Throughout the game I thought both teams owned some blocks of time there, and had their chances.  They took advantage of their power plays, and that’s the way it goes."

The Jets regular season record falls to 14-15-2.
