Now they'll play the waiting game.

The reigning Allan Cup champions gave up three unanswered goals and lost 4-3 to the Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts Tuesday night at the T. G. Smith Centre in Steinbach.

Tyler Dittmer, Dale Butland and Tim Plett did the goal scoring for the South East Prairie Thunder who would have earned a bye to the semifinals on Friday and couple of days rest with a win.

South East finished the round robin with a 1-1 record and will have to wait and see what happens with the Cataracts game tonight (8 p.m.) against Shellbrook.

The Prairie Thunder defeated the Elks 3-0 in their round robin opener Monday night.

If all three teams finish with a 1-1 record then the goals for/goals against differential comes into play to decide first, second and third place in the division.

A Grand Falls-Windsor victory over Shellbrook gives the Cataracts top spot and a bye to the semifinals and South East would play the Stoney Creek Generals in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

"No disrespect to them but I think we kind of gave them one," said South East head coach Brad Purdie when asked to comment on their loss to Grand Falls-Windsor. "We took a few too many stupid penalties. It just made our journey a little bit longer but we'll see."

Derek Martin scored the winner with 8:49 remaining in the third period.

Arron Asham, who scored 94 goals and had 208 points in 789 NHL games, drew an assist on Martin's go-ahead goal.

"It was definitely nice especially on the game winner," said the 38-year-old Portage la Prairie product. "We were down 3-1 but the guys didn't give up. They kept pushing and we snuck one out. They have a good team over there."

Rodi Short, Andre Gill and Cam Fergus also scored for the Cataracts.

The Ile des Chenes North Stars play their final round robin game at 4 p.m. against the Bentley Generals who beat Stoney Creek 8-2 Tuesday.

The North Stars, who will advance to the semifinals with a win, downed Stoney Creek 8-3 on Monday.
